Airport Entry Fees: Bengaluru International Airport Limited (Bial) has withdrawn the decision to impose fees on vehicle entry at the airport. Bial had planned to implement this fee from 20th May i.e. tomorrow Monday, under which this entry fee would be imposed on both commercial and private vehicles.

Why did Bial have to withdraw the decision?

According to a Moneycontrol report, sources have said that due to protests by drivers, anger of passengers and widespread online criticism, Bial was forced to withdraw his decision. In protest against Bial’s plan to charge entry fees on vehicles coming for pickup, cab drivers had also planned to take out a protest march from Begur Road to Arrive Pickup Point on Wednesday, May 22.

There was a plan to charge an entry fee of Rs 150 for cabs and other commercial vehicles to stay at the airport arrival point for 7 minutes. After 7 minutes this fee was going to be increased to Rs 300.

A charge of Rs 150 was to be imposed for the first 7 minutes on vehicles with yellow number plates i.e. cabs and other commercial vehicles in the arrival pickup point lane of Terminal 1 of Bengaluru Airport. After 7 minutes this charge could have been Rs 300. For white board vehicles, which are private vehicles, it was proposed to charge Rs 150 for a ride between 7 minutes and 14 minutes.

There was a plan to charge an entry fee of Rs 600 for the arrival of buses, while Rs 300 was to be charged for tempo travelers. Both buses and tempo traveler vehicles were allowed to enter from lane number three of Terminal 1.

Chaos seen at Kempegowda Airport

However, on Sunday itself, the news of this charge being implemented without any notice caused huge chaos at the airport. A situation of uproar and chaos was witnessed at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).
